I need to get something off my chest. It’s been bugging me for a while now.
It’s slightly embarrassing, so please, be kind.
Here it is. My confession…
I cannot make Anzac biscuits.
Phew! That feels better!
But seriously, I cannot make them. Pretty sad, right? And I’m Australian. Surely it has to be in my DNA or something that I should be able to make them?

I’ve tried numerous recipes over the years, but NONE of them have worked. I have tried recipes from celebrity chefs, from Australian cooking icons, from friend’s grandma’s recipe books. All have been an #epicfail.
Although, they could actually be in vogue right now, as Masterchef keeps featuring “crumb” this and that. Walnut crumb. Shortbread crumb. Perhaps I could patent my Anzac biscuit crumb?
I can make a mean shortbread. Actually, it’s not mean. It’s delicious, if I do say so myself 🙂
But why on earth can I not make Anzac biscuits?! It’s not rocket science. Or maybe it is?
Do you have a guaranteed #nofail Anzac biscuit recipe that you could share with me? Please?!
What is something “simple” that you should be able to make, but can’t?

If could be worse, you might not know how to make Pavlova, mind you that’s a Kiwi invention anyway (yes I was born in NZ) x

I’m hopeless at pavlovas too. I blame my oven. 😉

I haven’t even attempted macaroons after watching an episode of Masterchef. I’m pretty sure mine would look less than appetising!

I would blame it on your oven. That’s what I would do anyway :). I can’t make an egg white omelette! That’s all I could think of. My husband makes an awesome one, but I suck at them.

Haha! I would love to blame my oven, but it’s happened in three different houses we’ve lived in. Although maybe they’ve all been dodgy ovens?…

Yep, they were all dodgy. Ovens are so unreliable these days!

I’m coeliac so haven’t had anzacs for ages (oats aren’t GF) but I used to like them when they were bendy!
I suck at making my mother’s roast gravy. I do everything the same as she does but it never tastes the same. Maybe she sneaks something in there when I’m not looking!

Anzacs I can manage but not scones. I just can’t get them right!

Do you have the Edmonds Cookbook in Australia because that is my go to Anzac biscuit recipe! Deviate too far one way and they can fail though (usually if you put in too much butter!). I’m pretty ok at them but I really have to watch them as they cook as literally a minute too long and they burn! If you’d like it let me know and I will type it out for you.

Well I can eat Anzac biscuits from the shops… That’s as good as it gets here

LOL I tried Anzacs the other day and they just came out a crumbling mush. Still tasted bloody good though!

Maybe try it as Anzac slice same recipe just squash it into a Lamington tin and then slice up at the end. I’m pretty rubbish at omelettes and scrambled eggs!

For YEARS, I was terrible at baking! People would say, get a packet! And somehow, I’d still stuff it up. I had a great ANZAC biscuit recipe once. The first couple of times, I did a great job but alas, I ended up stuffing it up too. So, sorry. I can’t help you!

I can’t make microwave or stovetop popcorn. We all have an Achilles heel!

This might be unpopular but Anzac biscuits are overrated! I’d take some of your mean shortbread any day!

You’re not alone! I made them once and they just crumbled. Much prefer when they are made by someone else anyway 😉

Try Anazac biscuits as a slice – slap it all into a rectangular tin .
I can make them , never the same way twice.
I can’t make a decent biscuit crumb though for cheesecake etc.

I always forget to make them. Too many good slices out there win my fleeting cooking moments! You’ll nail it one day!!

I love ANZAC biscuits but have to limit making them because I will literally eat a whole tray full…
